Projects

Products

PPI works with organizations across the United States to promote Extended Producer Responsibility approaches for specific products and types of packaging.

Jobs and Economic Development

We conduct and consolidate research to promote the economic benefits of product stewardship, recycling and manufacturer takeback policies.

Climate Change

Since the majority of a product’s energy and carbon footprint is in the extraction and production phases, EPR programs can significantly lower the GHG emissions associated with a given product by substituting recycled materials for energy-intensive virgin resources.

Public Interest Organizations and the CRADLE2 Coalition

Product Policy Institute is the convener of the CRADLE² Coalition - an alliance of public-interest organizations and supporters - that is building a national citizens’ movement for producer responsibility.

Local Governments

Local governments were assigned responsibility for solid waste disposal a century ago, and for recycling a generation ago. They are pivotal players in the transition to industry-managed recycling systems.  PPI works to organize local governments into effective voices for producer responsibility.

Policy Makers

PPI educates policy makers and agency officials and works with them to design and advocate for effective public policy.
