What is EPR?

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is the simple concept that those who produce, manufacture and use a product should be responsible for taking it back at the end of its life.  EPR, also known as Product Stewardship, acknowledges that when a manufacturer must ensure responsible recycling of their products, they will design them with recycling, reuse, and cost efficiency in mind.

Case for EPR

Extended Producer Responsibility (also called Product Stewardship) is a policy that ensures that those who design, market and use products and packaging are responsible for ensuring that these goods do not become environmental liabilities.  In other words, if a
producer is required to manage a product and its packaging at the end of its life, they will design it differently.  They will design for reduction, re-use and recycling.
